Formation
The seeds for the chapter formation were sown way back in the year 2005 when a few committed individuals decided to pursue the possibility of forming an IIA affiliate in the country. Their initial efforts were recognized by the Director of Internal Audit at KPMG (Tanzania) who extended his support to the process. A steering committee was formed to ensure the process and liaison with IIA Inc., USA for the purpose.
The foundation stone was however laid on 27th May 2006 at Tanga in a one day workshop on “Internal Audit – Its Relevance & Role” attended by approximately 200 members of the profession. The idea of forming an affiliate of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) at Tanzania was mooted at the workshop and 8thJuly 2006 was fixed as a date for the same.
The steering committee organized and held the formation meeting of IIA Tanzania as decided at the Institute of Financial Management (IFM), Dar-es-Salaam. The same was attended by approximately 30 members of the profession. On the same day IIA Tanzania was formed as a Charpter Option Chapter and the first office bearers of the Board were elected through a democratic process.
